The technology to improve storage efficiency
Ultrastar 7K6000 also delivers great storage efficiency through its stunning performance, achieving higher random write performance, thanks to HGST media cache architecture, a disk-based caching technology, which provides a large non-volatile cache on the disk. Media cache also allows for improved reliability and data integrity during unexpected power loss. Other performance-enhancing feature is high areal density for faster sequential performance. The 7K6000 offers a 12 Gb/s SAS interface for easy integration into high performance data centers.

Helium Drives
Although hard drives are sealed, they have air inside. Air can create turbulence-induced risk vibrations which can limit the storage density of HDDs. Newer helium-filled drives virtually eliminate turbulence because helium is 1/7th as dense as air. This lower density allows the read/write mechanism to spin more easily and precisely, with less drag. Less internal turbulence means the drive platters can be closer together, allowing more platters and increasing the capacity potential in the same space. Less turbulence also means helium drives tend to use less power, and run cooler and quieter.
